I am in the process of capturing and editing the Darwin200 Symposium which, as the name indicates celebrates 200 years since Darwin's birth and the influence that he has had on today's science. One of the questions posed at the symposium was how relevant the teaching of Evolution is in today's society and similarly how do we ensure that the will be new paleontologists in the future. A comment was that we need to have more Scientist in politics as they influence policy. Another comment was that in today's society any talk about evolution and the teaching thereof always comes face to face with religious belief systems. My view is really to ask what does evolution require of us? Why should it be important to us? Does it ask me to change my belief system or is there a middle ground between ones beliefs and the theory of evolution?
