Institute for Justice and Reconciliation Digital Storytelling Workshop

I just returned from co-teaching on a Digital Storytelling workshop hosted in Paarl. This was my first stay in Paarl and sadly I didn't get to see much of the town. Nevertheless I was there for the workshop and not so much for the sightseeing...maybe next time.

What an awesome workshop it was!! It was great to work with Amy Hill from the Centre for Digital Storytelling, (CDS) Berkely, California as she introduced me to it as far back as 2005. If you wanna find out more on DST check out my favourite links. This was my first cross-cultural workshop where the participants came from such diverse walks of life. We had 2 pastors, a farm worker, ex-military men and ex banker to mention a few. The sessions were intensive as we needed to give plenty of support. There were those we never had enough pictures and so we had recreate a few of the scenes in their stories. We used the conference facility at the Lemoenkloof B&B to setup a mobile MAC lab which could accommodate at least 8 participants. We had very little technical problems but for me I think the biggest concern for the storytellers is always the music and copyright issues around it. So as far as possible we stay clear of copyrigthed music.

Some of the highlights of the workshop was definitely the food. Three course meals was the order of the day. I have to work at getting all the weight off again. And, then there's the stories...AWESOME is all I can say. I am looking forward to the final screening that will take place on 6 December at one of the churches in Paarl. See you there ifyou can make it.
